Conjuring a boutique hotel guestroom fit for family and friends was the project objective. There was a budget and a request for an update and refresh while keeping the space gender neutral. The first decision in the room was the bed. An ornate, charcoal grey, upholstered, wood and metal-trimmed bed made the cut. It was embellished but felt very masculine and handsome at the same time. The oversized mirror was found in the family’s entry and repurposed for the guest bedroom. But before it was hung, metallic – gold spray paint was used to assign this grand mirror a glamorous new identity. It not only opened up the smaller space, but it also gave the room a certain luxury vibe.
Feminine touches were brought in with art and table lamps for the existing nightstands. The new accessories balanced the masculinity of the headboard and footboard. New nightstands were not in the budget, so the only avenue was to bring in some new accessories. This space was not calling for a third art piece or another mirror over the headboard, so the sea-urchin, wall decor trio was brought in for a finishing touch. The room is accented with taupe, blue, grey, and gold bedding. These universal gender neutral colors made it seamless to layer texture, luster, and pattern. Because this is a guest room, it was essential to have a place to put an overnight bag or have a place to sit. A simple sitting area was created with art, an upholstered bench, and pillows.
